Story of the Sower

Here’s a fun way to meditate on a Bible passage. My dad wrote a whole collection of these and I’ve jumped in on the fun a couple of times.

Pick a passage from the Bible, pick a letter of the alphabet, and then try to rewrite the passage, as accurately as possible, using words that begin with your chosen letter. Begin as many words as you can with that letter.

Here’s my example, taken from Matthew 13:1-9:

Story of The Sower: In the Key of “S”

See? A sower set out to sow seed. Some seed he sowed spilled to the street. Soon swallows swooped down and scarfed them up.

Some seed he sowed settled among stones. The seed sprouted and speedily sprang up, since the soil amount was so small. But when the sun was set in the sky, it scorched the seedlings who had no substance and they shriveled.

Several seeds slipped in among spiney shrubs that strangulated what should have been strapping saplings. Sadly, any showing of spelt was suppressed.

Still some seed settled on superior soil and soon supplied scads of spelt, its stash swelling times thirty, sixty, and into centuplicate.

He who can surmise the sound of this story let him savy.

Your turn to give it a try!
